If any of you used to play paintball, you may remember the iconic shoebox known as an Impulse. It was big, beefy, and heavy, but most of all, it was good. Everyone wanted one. They shot faster and straighter and were easier to maintain than any other gun on the market. It was reliable and fun. When Smart Parts announced that it was discontinuing the Impulse, I know I was disappointed. I thought to myself, what have they done? Paintball will never be the same. Well, I was right. It isn't the same, because they have brought the Impulse back. Don't believe me? Have a gander for yourself.

I actually don't really care for the way it looks.

I still think airsoft is better than paintball.

This is not an airsoft vs paintball thread so do no start that argument. I simply wanted to share with the people here who like paintball. Do not post things like that.

okay, okay, don't get so worked up I was just stating my opinion and thats what you asked for.

I asked for the opinions of those who enjoy or used to enjoy paintball. And I want opinions relevant to the topic.

Now, I think this looks like a promising addition to the paintball world.

It's fun. I enjoy it. I enjoy airsoft too. They are both entirely different games. Paintball is often more fast paced, while airsoft is just plain fun

which is more realistic because some say paintball others say airsoft reasons vary but one point is clear paintball guns sound more realistic and airsoft guns look real.

I would say airsoft is by far more realistic. The paintball milsim scene is growing, but airsoft is still the more realistic game. The biggest thing that I like more about paintball is that it is more difficult to get away with cheating. I am not saying that you cannot wipe you hits (people do this) but it is harder to do. Airsoft is more a game of integrity that is paintball.

Well, the old impulse was a poppet valve marker with a very heavy brass hammer that caused the gun to have significant "kick." (Kick being a relative term because it is only a paintball gun)

This new Impulse uses a pressure balanced poppet valve (which I am assuming works much like the Invert mini, in that the solenoid is used to regulate the pressures that move the rammer back and forth in the gun rather than any mechanical function). Theoretically, this should lead to better efficiency and reduced recoil (provided that you have good dwell settings). Another nice improvement is the addition of the internal air channels (which they took from the DLX luxe which is owned by smart parts so no new copyright infringements there) so now it has no external hoses, which hopefully means no leaks...ever. It also has break beam eyes instead of that reflective bulls***, so no chopped paintballs. Another feature they cannibalized from the Luxe is the rechargeable lipo battery which provides power for the solenoid and board. Also, my favorite feature is the clamping feedneck. This is the first time that smart parts has included one of those on any stock gun. Exciting right?

If you want a more in depth description, let me know, but I believe I covered all the new goodies.
