i have to read the Iliad for summer reading for my freshmen advanced English class. Can somebody give me an overview. tips for reading it because i"m completly lost.

Here are things to draw from the Iliad :
Prophecies can never be outrun
Those who the gods favor will always find victory, despite their attitudes or alignments
Disrespecting the gods only leads to misfortune , no matter the measure of the man
Some gods hold power over others, but those who can sway Zeus to their side will always find their plans fulfilled
Royalty and divine origin make the man, no peasant of ignoble birth and of purely mortal blood ever did much of measure in the eyes of Greek mythology
When in doubt, sacrifice
And remember, no matter who tells you otherwise, the arrow of the GreatArcher is PLAGUE!
