I'm thinking about getting the A&K M249 SAW. I want to get the paratrooper version with the shortened barrel and the extendable stock. I would like to hear some opinions on if the gun is worth it or not. If you know anything about them just shoot me a reply, thanks.

<3 reviews.
This review doesn't seem too positive on certain things, Bipod seems to be a pretty big issue according to this guy, half of the post is toward the bottom.

If your going to get a support weapon theres no point in getting a "CQB" length version. Just go with the classic design of the 249. I know someone that had a E1 Para 249 and the stock was a POS, also often had problems with the gearbox and its trigger system. Don't expect a whole lot except a ACM AEG with a large capacity mag.

uses a v2 gearbox so parts are easy
shoots good out of the box
just a little more than a 249
and it has a v2 gearbox
and oh yea its got a v2 like all the m4 aegs
did i tell you about the v2 gearbox
with this set up you can build a good gun
with a support weapon rof is key

I mean basically, you are going for looks if you get a support weapon in airsoft. Which is fine, nothing wrong with that if that is what you want.
Just remember SAWS are heavy and clumsy at times. They are not ment to run around and be shoulder fired like in the video games, your going to tire yourself out that way.

Twitch,
I am mainly going for looks and I realize they are heavy. Aren't the airsoft ones like 23lbs or something like that.

+1 on the stoner....most folks i've seen with the 249 spend more time off field with it in pieces than in use on the field..and the stoner is gonna be around 10 pounds....

i have had a couple of saw/60s
echo1 a&k and even a inokatsu
they are not as good as a m4
that said the stoner has the ability to perform like a support weapon needs to
you can get 400 fps and 30 rps and because of the v2
upgrade parts will be easy to find
it also shoots semi
this would have been a great gun to have at the GA vs SC game
it would have fit there crazy rules on ammo and semi at night
i may get one of these after Christmas

Though they are more expensive, G&P makes some M249's.
M249 Ranger
MK.46 MOD 0
MK.46 SOPMOD
I saw these one Evike a few weeks ago and went "Cool, G&P SAWs in the USA. I might get one WAY on down the line, after all the 'Nam has been done." But unfortunately, they're out of stock (seems to be the norm for Evike) and pretty pricey. Sucks, 'cause Evike is the only retailer in the US that I can think of that sells G&P guns.
Oh, by the way, Evike has the G&P MK.23/XM22/Stoner 63A in stock! Amazingly, it's about the same price that Redwolf & E-Hobby sell it for, but you don't have to pay the crazy, cross-pacific shipping charges.

If you do, you'll need some Tadpole Sparse Tiger-stripe jungle fatigues, some web gear and some jungle boots, and be a SEAL in 'Nam with my team...poopdaddy wrote:i may get one of these after Christmas

Honestly, I've handled both a M249 and the M60VN and I can honestly say the M60 is a far better gun, stock and upgraded. The build quality of the M60 is far supirier minus the pot metal but all clones are going to have it. Both of the bipods are steel I believe (at least for the M60VN) but the part that connects the bipod to the barrel is pot metal and will break relativly easily if you are not careful. Besides the build quality of the guns, I would say that the M249 is easier to work on, or at least to get the gearbox out. Both have the same basic internals and should be greased, reshimmed, and or upgraded immideatly. The trigger switches in the M60 are alot better from what I've heard, mines lasted 50,000 rounds so far and still running strong. The M60VN is ALOT heavier than the saw and with that said, on any M60, the box mag pertrudes outwards on the left side making holding th weight of the gun hard for righties for long periods of time, but then again, its a SAW, not an assult rifle. The box mags on the SAW's are crap and break quickly, the M60's one is built like a brick and I feel it will never break. The deal breaker for me between both guns was the barrel, a whopping 590mm barrel, and you could fit a 650mm if desired!!. My gun outranges pretty much all and any AEG's shooting under 450fps, and it's extremly accurate, not so as much for the M249.
So I guess if you are willing to shell out $500 for a quality G&P which I can vouche for the M249 and Stoner 63 series being amazing, I say go for it, but if you're on say a $300 budget, I would personally M60E1, and for a little less perfomance but easier to handle, the M60E4... They are just newer designed guns, only about a year or two old I believe as compared to the 4-6 year old SAW's or however old they are. Build quality and out of the box performance are all there for the M60's.

Heck yeah! I didn't mention it because he was asking About SAWs, and I mentioned the Stoner because it was already mentioned prior to my post. I'm trying to get the A&K M60E1 "VN". I'm still hoping that my Christmas list is followed relatively closely, that way my 1st Vietnam impression will be mostly complete.

Found this on Redwolf. Looks like a reasonable choice for those who need "tactical" guns. $400, but out of stock.

The original one but not the "tactical" version. Unless I'm missing something.

thanks for all the suggestions but I am only 16 and I have to buy the things I want myself so I value my money more than most 16 year old kids. I appreciate all the suggestions, but I would NEVER spend more than $250 for any airsoft gun regardless of how good it is.

Well Aggressor, if you would notice, I said 16 year olds. If you have a job and a steady income then the comment doesn't apply to you.
