Favorite Optics

This post is to see what players like as an optic for a real rifle. This is about opinions for real rifles, not airsoft.

OPTICS:
Whatever optic you like the best and tell why you like it.

(REAL OPTICS, NOT AIRSOFT!) I like the ACOG because of the 4X magnification on it.

There are alot more optics than what you have listed. Think that it is a very narrow limited list.

it's similar to airsoft.
red dot for door kicking,1-4x28 for field.
if i could afford one, elcan specterdr 1x-4x

Favorite optic? Depends on what your using it for.

My favorite manufactures are Aimpoint, Nightforce, and S&B.

Why is it supposed to be a narrow list?

From my experience the only optic i used is just the typical t shaped crosshair sniper rifle scope on a bolt action rifle. I've been shooting guns with iron sights the whole time. Im looking to get one sometime in the future for my gun, but i dont know much of optics and id like to know what other people consider the "best" optic.

No. Not at all.

I personally like acogs, but i might try to use a aimpoint t1 or an eotech when i get the money.

I personally love the Aimpoint. I own a 2 MOA COMP M3. They've got great battery life, they're really reliable. For close quarters stuff, they're great.
I've used ACOG TA31RCO's on the standard issue M16A4's in the Corps. I really like them. Some people don't like them because they're not as good as iron sight
for the known distance rifle qualification just because with iron sights, you can make a wind call and adjust for distance and then aim normally, whereas
with the RCO you have to offset aim, which isn't ideal. However, in a combat situation you probably aren't going to be making a wind call and adjusting for
distance so the bullet drop compensator in the RCO is nice. Also, the prism inside focuses the reticle off in the distance, so you don't have to worry about the target
being out of focus.

Some people knock the ACOG because of it's magnification, but with some practice, the Bindon Aiming Concept can be applied very nicely.

A buddy of mine has an EOTech that I've used (not sure on the model). It's nice, but the battery life can't compare to the Aimpoint. The EOTech also weighs a little
more and supposedly isn't as rugged, but the reticle is nice.

I have never tried a holographic sights. Would love to try and see what the craze is about them. As for red dots, I think they're a more expensive version of iron sights. Sure it makes it easier to aim at closer ranges 15 yards to 50 yards, even possibly 100 yards. I don't see much effect for red dots on my AR-15 if I'm shooting down range especially since I like shooting well above 50 yards. Although realistically red dots are more suggested for me since I would be engaging targets (if it ever comes to a self/home defense situation) at closer ranges. Plus red dots are pretty high speed at picking targets off for me.

It's all self-preference. Never tried an ACOG yet, and never found a far enough target to try out a scope.

ok i'm curious, enlighten us to all the optic types

If your using call of duty to use as your benchmark of optics you might need to re think that. They have yet to get any optic correct.


Aimpoint really wins out, I have used most all types of short range optics and the aimpoint is the most practical. You can push them out to 400 yards easily.

Eotech... well they suck. Battery life is crap, they are not that durable, and I personally hate the ridicule.

Trijicon, Like them more than others but yet to me a t1 can do the same so why not go with the lighter smaller set up and I do not like the fixed 4 power.



And I dont know why the reflex RDS is on the 'list' because it has almost no use in any situation. Just the fact that it is described as the one of COD discredits it.

I used Call of Duty as an example of the reflex red dot to give people a picture of what it looks like because most people have played Call of Duty

and this is about your favorite optics not complaining about the length of the list that I used or the references that I use!

There are A LOT of different types of optics. The Magpul Dynamics about the carbine featured a general variety of them. Scopes, red dots, ACOGs, NVG, Thermal, Holographic, etc. Then you have the brands, then the types, then the variations of the optic that's specific for a certain scenario. Optics are not limited to what you see most of the time. You just see the most practical more often than the others.

alright I didnt want a list in order by manufacture. Do you realize how long it would take to list every different kind of optic in each category.

Do you know how long it would take to organize a list of types of optics? The list of the three in the first post is hardly comprehensive.


I just really fail to see the point in this... Whats your favorite optic? Based off what how good it looks on my gun or does it fill the roll I need it to. I mean not really that much direction here.

is it that freakin hard for you to comprehend the fact that the list was there for you to choose from. I mean holy crap, I've seen 2nd graders with more common sense than this. PICK AN OPTIC AND TELL WHY YOU LIKE IT, THANK YOU TO THE LIKE THREE OR FOUR PEOPLE THAT ACTUALLY LISTED WHAT OPTIC THEY LIKED. and Trunkmonkey, you use gear for functionality, not looks!

I think the point trying to be raised here is, why are the list of optics narrowed to such an extent as to exclude a wide variety of optics favored by many and popular in their own right, and also, why not for airsoft as well, as many people on this forum, if I am not mistaken, do in fact play airsoft, or so I have heard.

because shooting real guns is different than shooting airsoft and optics for airsoft are generally used for looks.

If your going to say you dont need an attitude, then reply with one thats a bit counter intuitive.


I have given you 2 lists of optics and why or why not I like them. Quite frankly you posted a list of optics that were just off a video game because thats probably the only time you've seen them, because I dont know if you know real guns arnt like airsoft or video games. The main point I was trying to raise was the list you gave was not that comprehensive and you should list more but I guess you dont want our opinions cause we are just a bunch of 2nd graders.
