In terms of actual Firearms the SCAR is more reliable and just a better weapon system. In airsoft, the M4 is the way to go. Easy disassembly, familiar design, unlimited customization options.

Yeah, in airsoft, there's a lot more M4's out there to choose from, and the sheer number of companies with M4's drives the price of M4 vareints down. For the SCAR, you really only have 3 choices, the Dboys/E1, which is OK but not awesome, the G&G, which is supposed to be really good but is expensive, and the VFC, which is supposed to be really good but is also really pricey. Steer clear from the JLS and the WE GBBR as they're both unreliable and performance is limited.

Now, if I was going to spend $350 on a gun, I'd definitely consider the G&G or VFC SCAR. SCARs look really cool and have rails for accessories, but you can't all of the cool stocks, foregrips, etc that you can to an M4. That being said, any SCAR is going to look more unique than 95% of the M4's out there. Internally, the SCAR is very similar to the M4, but the hopup is different, and there aren't a whole lot of aftermarket SCAR hopup units out there.

Also, the SCAR is more ergonomic than the M4, the stock and grip are more comfortable, the stock is not only adjustable for length but also height of the cheek rest and it folds. Some M4's have handgaurds that wobble a little bit and almost all have a little bit of stock wobble, where the SCAR typically doesn't have that problem. Also, if you want an RIS on the M4 and a collapseable stock, then you have to either go to a crane stock or throw on a PEQ. The SCAR fits the battery in the folding/collapseable stock.

In short, if your budget is limited to $250 or under, I'd pick up a G&G M4, (either CM or Proline depending on budget). I wouldn't go for the Dboys/E1 SCAR, which retails for around $200. but if you're spending $350-ish on a gun and like the looks of the SCAR, then pick up the G&G or VFC SCAR.

Go vfc the G&G scar has the most stupid battery compartment. The way they designed it is weird and is prone to break. VFC is the only company that has the proper fde color and trades. Also the performance is very good outa the box.

Classic Army also makes a SCAR but it's not really that great.
