OK, round 2 for some airsoft news covering the month of January.

First up, for you glock lovers out there, A.P.S has come out with a new design of carbine kit for the Glock blowback pistol series.

Features include rails for accessories and the ability to put on a rifle type flashhider.

Up next, KingArms is putting out there own line of "upgraded" gearboxes, called KingArms HQA. Not sure if they will come out with a line of weapons that feature the gearbox preinstalled.

Finally, here is something I don't really understand. This is a new PolarStar electric airsoft gun. The company claims to have created a revolutionary design, which strays from the so called old and problematic current AEG design, and instead uses a " pneumatic HPA " system. Not sure what that means, but who knows, could be the future of AEGs.

Some more light shed on the topic of Polar Star, it is not an electric system, it is redesign of the classic airsoft guns that used external air sources to power them. However, it can be dropped into any gun that uses a V2 Gearbox. They also claim that it is much more advanced and the performance it will deliver will be second to none, with variable fps and rof, as well as programmable firing modes. Here is a picture of their prototype "gearbox"

That really does sound pretty awesome. I have been really interested in gas guns for a while and this may be a great jump for me to utilize the system and be effective in BATTLE!

I'm looking forward to seeing some reviews of the polarstar system. I already have the stuff to run it, maybe it will renew my airsoft desires.

I wonder what sort of external rig you can set up. I'm guessing pretty much just any tank. HPA paintball tanks sound good. Here's the only problem. Being able to dial up your fps at any time... that means after chrono. So in theory one could jack up the fps right after chronoing and run all day with an extremely hot gun.

Random, anytime chrono screening for players with HPA tanks. I would find it so SO lame if this came out and it was denied use because of trust issues.

Me too I think the idea is such a good one. The platform would be so awesome for sniper/dmr setups.

The insane FPS from hpa guns is typically only on bolt rifles. Most full auto capable guns cant make much more than 400, if you do they are liable to explode.

I have waiting for the polar star gear boxes. They stated in the past, that they were going to do a GR/SR-25 box. I want one for my G&G GR25. I have seen the Glock system before, just don't think I want to spend the money to turn my pistol into an assault weapon.

See we need you around more dude to help contribute to these sorts of things. With you classic background what do you think of this idea?
And we have already had one fall to exploding gas guns.... R.I.P. Twitch.
And where does the motor go in one of those gbs?

    haha, there is no "motor"

Basically it is probably an electronic trigger mech controlling a normal classic style engine that has been modified to fit in the space of a gearbox. This thing should be amazing, it would be extremely reliable, pretty easy on the gas efficiency and have pretty insane ROF and consistent FPS

Air rig wise you would need a Low Pressure Regulator and some coiled hose for a remote. HPA is given all the hype, but CO2 works great so long as you arent using a CMag or just packing highcaps.

I personally don't like the idea. Just more crap to carry around and hoses leading to the gun doesn't look good to "me".

The tank can be a pain, though they make 20 oz co2 tank molle pouches that work really well. I have had a tank go flying over my head out the backpack several times though. It is a little unnerving

I think its cool but extremely pointless...
First off i will always remember back in the paintball days when kids would run the tank on their back via a air line. I swear atleast 6 times i saw a kid snag his airline on a bunker and have it rip out from the regulator which is not a good thing.
Theres also a reason that classic guns are no longer in use.
cool idea but not realy pratical and i can see some kid jacking his fps up after chrono.

While I don't neccesarily agree with Trent, he does bring up one really good point.

"There is a reason classic airsoft guns are't around anymore"

I never really looked at it like that. However, I am still hopeful to see how this all pans out, and I'm excited to see it. I still have high hopes, but Trent does bring up that one very strong point.

Yeah there is a reason. AEGs are cheaper more compact and get the job done. But there will be a niche in the market for these. Those who are willing to sacrifice some cash and being "UBER HIGH SPEED OMG!" for possibly being more effective.

Main reason classics arent around anymore is that the paintball stuff wasnt available. people had to use small crappy internal tanks or large bulky air tanks. Some even had a bike pump like contraption. Not to mention they were incredibly expensive and japans economy was in the dumps, so most went out of business

Another thing too aeg's are more realistic well besides the recoil. Aegs dont have airlines running from the stock, grip,or mag and aegs last longer battery wise verse gas especialy with size of the energy source. Cool idea not pratical in my opinion but then again thats just my opinion.
