Yeah, I got it at a gun show. It is considered due to its length a pistol/handgun under federal law, therefore ownership/posession of the "handgun" must be 21.

That is completely false regarding the 21+ possession...

You can have it on your person, in your house or on property owned by immediate family members. You can keep in in your car as long as you are 18+ but it must be in either a glove box, center console or on the seat. It cant be concealed in any fashion other then the GB/CC. You can even carry in your place of business if they want or allow you to(18+). Even a minor can have a handgun in his or her vehicle as long as the minor is going to and from; shooting range, hunting, class(gun related) or from another family members house/property.


And on shot guns, You can buy shot guns with under 18 inch barrels that came from the factory as AOW's. It is a $5 tax and the transfer is instant. You can not attach a stock with out it becoming a SBS though. That is the same principle of putting a pistol grip on a pistol or any firearm that is titled as a pistol. If you do so you are breaking the law and subject to alot of years in prison courtesy of the ATF. To register a AOW it costs 200 bucks and you will be waiting the same as any class 3 owner, difference being once it is a AOW if you sell it, like noted above $5 bucks and instant.

Yeah, I guess I wasn't specific enough, their are exceptions in the law as far as taking a handgun or similar to and from a approved location.

I mean it looks to me that the picture was taken in a house (probably yours) so all I was saying is that you are well with in your legal rights to have control of it if you are 18+, or even a minor with parents consent.

Of course but to reply to your other statement, when I bought it I was informed that I could not take or possess the "shotgun" in its pistol grip version until I was 21 unless under parental guidance or on my own property etc etc. It came with a full stock so I could put the full stock on and bam its now legal for me to own and possess if/when I turn 18.

All I am saying is if your under 18 and in your house and your parents are ok with it you CAN have the pistol grip on it.


When I was 16 I would carry my 1911 (not concealed) on our property in macon. Perfectly legal. Now that I am not a minor I can keep it in my car 24/7 because it is now considered an extension of my household.

Interesting, so you can have it in your car and stuff but when it comes to purchasing one you have to be 21?

yep, my dad is giving me his glock 20c, its gonna stay in my car, and on my waist when im on my land or at my house

The key word is purchasing, not possession. You must be 21 to buy, but 18 to have control of it in your car (on a daily basis). You can have one at any age if your parents approve it, yet you are confined to the house and the situations I already covered.


When I am not in school I carry my 1911 in my car at all times, and I've had my 870 in my car since I got a license. You can even have a loaded mag in but it cant be chambered.


Gun laws are interpreted lots of ways but as long as you know the law you are fine. Regardless of what LEO has told you. I have talked to some cops that say I cant even touch a damn pistol till im 21 and others have said they do not care as long as your acting as a 21 year old.
