Doesn't work. thats really all i know. But I expect it is something mechanical like the motor because when I turn it on you don't hear anything from it, and it has that "magic smoke" smell.

Gamestop can take a look at it for you. I had that same problem before and Gamestop got it done in a week for only $25. But I hear only most Gamestops do it; not all of them fix consoles

Re: Xbox 360 Parts...
have you tried reformatting the hard drive? You can try to format it using your xbox but I never had luck doing it that way. I had one that stopped working I had to reformat it using my computer (had to take it apart hook it up to a sata port on my computer and format it using dos flash) I can send you instructions if you want me to.

Re: Xbox 360 Parts...
No the xbox doesn't let me do anything if it sees the hard drive. I would need to convert a sata connection to work with the xbox 360 hardy. Or take it apart.
In that case, could you send me those instructions pls.

Here is the easiest to follow tutorial. It is for upgrading but it will give you a general idea on how to do it. If you have any questions let me know.

no problem If you can't get it I can try a few things to get it up and working. Have you tried another hard drive in your xbox? if you can get a hold of someone elses I would try that to.

Re: Xbox 360 Parts...
Yea I opened it up and I saw no actual damage to the hard drive so that is a good thing. I think tommorow i'll just pull the spare sata converter from my old computer and see if it reads the hard drive on boot.
Then format it and re-install the xbox firmware.

Re: Xbox 360 Parts...
OKAY...so I found another guide. http://www.llamma.com/xbox/Repairs/Reading_Xbox_Hdd_key.htm
Which is on the Llama xbox mods website...very popular according to my friends. Anyways it says I need to first find the HDD EEPROM password in order to simply reformat it and give it a clean slate if the xbox menus are not accesible because it is running a corrupt file or Error-68.
Anyways I should be able to crack it because with this guide he gives a link to the cracker.
Just I need to go to radioshack and make a special reader to plug into the xbox from my computer to crack it and get the HDD key files.
...blargh...
