Best first step is to watch the vids that pertain to your gun on www.mechbox.com

Yeah when I was 14 I took apart my first m4, now I work with rhino at airdog as a guntech and build some of the fastest guns around. I am EXTREMELY mechanically minded though, I have tried to teach some friends with no luck, they just cant grasp the concept of the workings of the gun. You are better off teaching yourself and learning from trial and error like Mark said.

One thing to do is buy a cheap broken aeg and familiarize yourself with each and every part and get a full understanding of what it does

i took my first gun apart when i was like 14. Ever since then i have learned more and more. I am like russ where i am very mechanicaly minded. And i now also help gun tech at the shop as well. honestly its not something you just pick up it takes a while to learn just the basics

I took apart my P90 at the age of 12, I hope that counts.

On the opposite end of the spectrum, I took apart my first gun at 16, and its still in pieces from what I remember. I am very mechincally disinclined, and even with all the help videos in the world, sometimes things just dont seem to want to fit where the hands in the video place them. Practice on a gun you assign little value to, or else you may end up hating life if you can't get it back together
