ok...here is the thing....you have a large segment of the population ,(under the age of 35),that is unemployed or under employed,or struggling with a family to make ends meet, that either went to school got a degree, generating student loans to do so because they were sold the idea that if they just went to college, they'd be employed once they got a degree...you also have younger folks that don't have the opportunity to go to college and have no jobs available to them...many younger folks have little to no hope for a future in the next few years....there is a very large reservoir of fear ,discontent, and dissatisfaction out there...and because of the lack of focus with many of these protestors there is a lot of room for them to be co-opted by fringe groups like the nazis, communists, socialists, etc.much like how the tea party was co-opted by corporate interests early on in it's existence...
these sort of "causes" or protests will always attract those wannabe hipsters and hippies that are just there to be seen as being cool or part of something larger then their normal existence.most of those types are the ones that get labelled as "hippies".....but they would sell out faster then their baby boomer parents did, give an opportunity.....
but the core discontent is still there that started this expression in the first place.....this guy has the base issue on lock...
