my new, old TM AUG Empty my new, old TM AUG

    Post  Markerscope1 [SOTHG] 19.05.09 19:20

so i just got my TM AUG in the mail the other day (used) from some d-bag in Florida. There were a few minor problems with it, but there is one thing that is bothering me.

for those of you that know anything about the inside of an AUG or not, there is a plastic plate in the back between the gearbox and battery. 2 screws hold the plate down and keep the gearbox tight in place. my AUG has the 2 screw holes in the body completely striped by larger screws that the kid used. I'm thinking I should hot glue/crazy glue + screws to keep it in. but idk if thats a safe idea. especially if i ever need to take the gearbox out.

but i'm having airdog put in a whole new tune up kit this weekend, so maybe i should have them do something?

    any ideas?

and no, i'm not sending it back...

No, if he used the wrong screws he probably stripped the threading. I would get a new stockplate and screws.

You should send it back. I'm sure that the guy, whoever he is, would gladly replace the broken part and get the gun shipped back to you in a timely manner.

    [/sarcasm]

So what do the screws screw into? The back plate and what else? I'm assuming they screw into the body as well?

its the holes in the body that are stripped.

and i had a hard enough time having him send it to me.

you can try and re-tap the holes if you know someone with a tap and die set. Then just tap the back plate and use a different screw.

actualy what works somes times is to get the blue locktight and fill the screw holes with it then allow it to dry. after it is dry re screw the screws back through it and it pretty much gives u new threading. it has worked for me many of times

Oh that sucks that it's plastic. I've never heard of the lock tite trick, but it's worth a shot.

    i actually solved the problem...

i drilled a bolt through side ways and it holds the geabox in place....

it may look a bit ghetto, but i like it enough. and im gonna shave the end down so it doesn't stick out so much.

you can also see the stripped screw holes.

I actually think it looks cool. Maybe you could put something that looks like a sling mount on it. Then it will be hidden really well.

thanks. i'm def gonna paint it black. idk if a sling would be a good idea cause it might break it, and the real sling mount is right next to it.

i think its more reliable than the original aug plate

put some washers on it so it spreads the load over a larger area of plastic, and less of a chance to break it.

i cant get washers to fit Sad because the plastic is curved where the screw goes in. or would it still be fine if its like...diagonal?

you could actually bend the bolt so it fits the curve better. If you don't want to do that then yeah the washers are still a good idea, just don't crank the bolt down.

Or bend the washers with two pairs of pliers.

Actually, you don't need the nut on the bolt to be tightened down really tight, so you won't need a washer. You'll just need some locktite to make sure the nut doesn't come off.
