I've heard that it is supposed to be evident by sound, but I don't really know more than that. What should a properly firing AEG sound like? How can you tell if something needs to be changed? I don't want to ruin my AEG by firing it while it needs to have adjustments made.

How do you know if an AEG needs to be re-shimmed or have its motor height adjusted?

If your gun is shooting at its normal FPS I wouldn't worry about it unless you can hear grinding or rubbing. Besides if it does wear something out prematurly, that just gives you an excuse to UPGRADE !

Well, I suppose that's looking at it on the bright side. But I'd rather not be FORCED to upgrade...

Dude, I know it's a KWA, but seeing as it cost me so much, I'd like to make sure I don't screw it by not recognizing some simple problem like this. If it's going to break, it isn't going to be because I was totally clueless.

To check your motor height look at the bottom of the handgrip, there should be a big screw and a little screw, find a small allen wrench or whatever it takes to turn it.
Then go outside somewhere and fire a couple shots on auto
twist the little screw about 1/4 a turn in the direction of your choice, fire a few more shots on auto, if it sounds like it is whinier or the rof drops some then turn it the other direction, if nothing changes/it gets better repeat the process

Normally most guns come properly shimmed, so if you havent opened it then i wouldn't worry about, but as long as the gears dont make an excessive amount of noise then you should be good.

I guess the thing is I don't really know what "an excessive amount of noise" is. I could tell if there was this horrible grinding, grating sound, but if it's just a whiny, high-pitched noise, I'm not sure I'd be able to tell the difference from the normal sound of the gun firing. I think that I just need to hear what a properly firing gun sounds like to have something to compare it to.

I can look at it if you want, but if I had to guess it is fine.

There shouldn't be anything wrong with it. Outside of maybe 200 rounds I shot when I first got it and perhaps another 300 just playing around in my backyard I haven't shot it. I just want to know to watch out for, because I'm assuming that at some point it's going to need some adjusting.

You should be fine, they did that quality assurance check.

I plan on having my AEG for a long time, and the quality assurance check isn't exactly a guarantee of eternal perfection...

well, if you plan on having it a long time, you are going to have to replace some parts and have things adjusted eventually. I would just enjoy it for now and worry about motor spacing and shimming the gears when you do have to have the mech box torn apart. Like I said before, if it is working well and shooting close to the right FPS i wouldn't worry about it too much. Its probably fine.

KWA's have shimless gears (at least my KG36c does). I opened mine up to shim it, and I found that it didn't need a single shim.

This is also true with KWA M4's (at least on all the ones I've worked on).
