My dad is looking for some more range and accuracy. His SR is stock internally except for a 6.03 or .04 tbb and a firefly bucking. Its getting well over 200 feet of range. But he's looking for that little extra push. Any thoughts?

Re: SR25 Range and Accuracy Upgrades
What FPS is your dad at? Because I'm assuming he's at at least 430.
And the BB's are the problem. At a certain point, you can't really spend much more on accuracy upgrades, and if you're using cheap, lightweight BB's, your effective range is going to suffer BIG TIME. I remember back when I used to run Bioval .27's in my M14, I had more effective range than 95% of the people on the field (this was a TM M14, with a Prommy 6.03, Prommy bucking, Hnub, and the Tokyo Marui M14 hopup unit, which truly is spectacular, and a Systema M130 putting out like 430 FPS.) Just ask anyone who was at RedDragon, especially on the PMC side on that final defense. However, when I switched to .2s and even .23's, my range just DROPPED, and I was forced to use it more like a support gun than anything else. Now, whenever I use it, I've got to use at least .25's if not .28's, and GOOD QUALITY .25's/.28's at that.
If he really wants that extra range, HE NEEDS HIGH QUALITY BB's. Ask any competition shooter, and he'll tell you that when it comes down to it, the rifle is only part of the equation. Without match-grade ammunition, you can't hit crap.
Get him a bag of these for Christmas: http://www.nashvilleairsoft.com/index.php?page=shop.product_details&flypage=shop.flypage&product_id=1951&category_id=126&manufacturer_id=0&option=com_virtuemart&Itemid=37. He won't be able to go back to regular BB's.
I know that Biovals are like 3 times a much as .2's, but I can guarantee you'll shoot so many fewer BB's because you'll hit with the first or second shot that it'll end up being cheaper in the long run.
What brand tightbore? The Madbull/JBU/"budget" tightbores are decent, but the Prometheus 6.03/PDI 6.05 ones truly are spectacular.Airsoftguy238 wrote:.2s currently we just ordered some .23s which I know will help

Also, what kind of hopup unit is he using? I'd recommend upgrading it to maybe a Prommy one.

Re: SR25 Range and Accuracy Upgrades
the consistency with his guns FPS is weird...sometimes it will chrono 430 and other times it will be 405. We ordered 15000 .23 Matrix BBs . The barrel I dont remember who makes it all I know that it is brass. The Hop up is a stock A&K metal hop up. For christmas I was thinking about getting him a neo chamber or a new 650mm prommy matrix type tbb

Re: SR25 Range and Accuracy Upgrades
I'd skip on the Prommy chamber right now. A hopup chamber isn't going to make THAT big of a difference. Get the prommy barrel.
The FPS could be for a number of reasons. It could be that you're using different brands of BB's, it could be that you've got the hopup turned on when you chrono it sometimes and the hopup turned off other times, or just that you've got a crappy air seal. Get a #14 O-ring and expand it with a heat gun or with a lighter (be careful not to burn the O-ring) and replace the one on the piston head with it.

Re: SR25 Range and Accuracy Upgrades
so will that prommy chamber make that much of a difference? I put my magnum motor in my dads gun cause the stock one starting sounding odd. He is loving the motor, so odds are he will get one and he will probably get a m140 or m150 spring

No, Just a different chamber isnt going to really make a difference. All the chamber really does is hold everything, its not like its going to make the gun have more range or fps. I personnal did not like my prometheus chamber. I switched back to my G&P

Re: SR25 Range and Accuracy Upgrades
Honestly, before you go and spend $40 on a hopup chamber, try some high quality heavywieghts like Excel .28s, Bioval .27's, etc.
