the vsr series is one of my favorite yet at the same time hated series of guns. The first thing you have to consider is how much are you willing to spend. Spring rifles are one of those things you either go big or go home. To actually gain a tactical advantage you are going to be dropping some serious coin. If you think about it you are going to need to be pushing 250+ ft to be effective against aegs. If you are going to be pushing your gun to 550 fps. You are going to need a new trigger system (laylax zero trigger, pdi v trigger) or get used to replacing sears. Some guys put upgraded sears into their guns and run for a while, but I went with a zero trigger and called it a day. Secondly you are going to be needing the rest of the internals of the cylinder. If you go with zero trigger then go with laylax internals. If you go with v trigger then go with pdi. Except for the cylinder head they have to match because of the different diameters of the spring iirc. Polar star also has put out an interesting piston, so check into them as well.
So there you go. 550 fps gun. Now after you got that and you still aren't getting range or accuracy then go back and look at the barrel, hop up bucking, barrel spacers, compression leaks, shimming the hop up arm, etc.
There is a wealth of information on the vsr series.
http://www.airsoftforum.com/board/Rifle-Guides-Reviews-Mo-t175550.html post #3 Tux is a pretty stand up guy and knows his junk when it comes to vsr's. I'm not sure if he's still active on ASF or not, but what he posts is very good stuff.

Well, you could do that 500+ fps mod for the bar-10 if you just want the fps difference. Their are videos on youtube on how to do so, if you have the patience.

see i want over 500 fps and im gonna make sure theyre r no air leaks so im gonna do alotof compression modification but i want to be shooting 500+ fps but i dont really feel like replacing the trigger seer with a 200 dollar trigger because im already goin to buy 100 dollar upgrade kit http://www.airsoftpost.com/product_info.php?cPath=648_658&products_id=35609 and then im gonna put a good bit of money into a hop up and hop up bucking but i just dont see the point in a zero trigger unless i put like a 170 spring in it

    dude just post once.
That's the reason it will last long enough to chrono. The mod he is talking about is not realistic. It doesn't get you to 500fps. Stock hop up chamber is fine. Just shim it and get a new bucking. firefly and 9ball are good ones. Why are you going to buy that upgrade kit for $80 (not $100) when on the site itself states "May work for VSR-10 / WELL MB-03 and MB-07 series sniper rifles with slight modification." Why not just buy actual vsr parts? My suggestion is to keep doing your homework.

    gas problems or spring problems
but for a buck 95 its worth a shot
    plus no heavy spring pull

yah but the prob is is they dont make an upgrade kit for a vsr or at least i havent found one like that the prob is i dont know a lot about the parts and what they do so idk what to buy or what to look for for that matter and im not buying a gas sniper gas is poo poo its affected by the weather and ill spend just as much upgrading it as i will a spring

Honestly the upgrade kits are not worth your time, Buy laylax parts. Trust me i use to have a vsr-10 shooting over 600 that i build over 5 years.

why not just buy an AEG and upgrade it? wouldn't that be a heckuva lot cheaper?
Most guns retail for what you would pay for your trigger parts.
dont put more money into a gun than you paid for it

A lot of people put more money into a gun that what they paid for it. In fact depending on what gun you have (JG, G&G combat Machine) Its very easy to spend more on 3 or 4 internal parts then you did on the gun.

it'll probable cost less not to mention you can put more rounds down range faster because it's semi auto.
