By January 2003, there was a notable increase in violence as militant groups in the Pakistan's Swat valley, led by radical cleric Maulana Fazlullah, began attacking and killing civilians as well as police checkposts in Swat. The militants, who later identified themselves as the Taliban, set up a "parallel government" in 59 villages with radical Islamic courts imposing Sharia, codified Islamic law. Korphe is just one of these 59 villages, and control of Korphe has been hotly contested since 2003.
By January 2009, the Swat region was effectively under militant control, despite the presence of nearly 20,000 Pakistani tropps located there. As a result of its own inability to control the region, and the desire to prevent the Taliban from spreading any farther, the Pakistan government announced on February 16, 2009 that it would allow Taliban-enforced Sharia law to be the sole law of the Swat region in exchange for a cease fire. However, despite the agreement, the Taliban refused to lay down their arms. In response to pressure from the international community about concerns over the security of Pakistan's nuclear arsenal, and due to the threat of being completely overrun, the Pakistani government announced in April 2009 that it would take back the Swat valley by force. But unanuonced to the world was the fact that the American CIA's Special Activites Division Special Operations Group (SAD/SOG), perhaps the most effective counter-insurgency force the world has ever seen, would be taking place in the fight.

Operation Korphe will be the first in a (hopefully) long line of MAA Relief games. MAA Relief is an organization founded to host airsoft events and donate the proceeds to charity. Money raised from the Korphe series of events will be donated to the Central Asia Institute, an organization that builds schools in Pakistan and Afghanistan.
You see, while the (true) story about the Taliban (well, ok... I made up the part about the CIA) makes for a gripping storyline for an OP, it creates a humanitarian crisis in the real Swat valley. The Taliban has shut down all schools that educate girls in the region. An estimated 400 schools, enrolling approximately 40,000 children, have been shut down. At least 10 girl's schools that tried to open after the crackdown were blown up by the Taliban. A total of 170 schools and other government-owned buildings were torched or blown up by the Taliban.
Now is the time that money to rebuild the schools and lives of the people living in Swat is needed more than ever. We are looking for about 170 players to come to this OP, and hopefully we can do our small part to help the people who need it.
