OK . . . so, anyone who has played with our crew knows that I am a fan of the A&K series rifles and in particular, the LR300.
CAVEAT:
I just got done rebuilding my son's LR and mine is till in pieces. Reason is that each of them had a piston failure after about 40,000 rounds. That is to be expected in any gun with a nylon tooth piston that gets run as hard as we run the LRs. The troubling thing is that after that rebuild, the next thing to go is the axle in the spur gear.
A broken spur gear axle will most likely cause you to chew up the new piston that you just put in the thing! SO, to any of you LR shooters, I would recommend that you replace the gearset when you encounter signs of piston damage. Cannot say what will happen to yours but my axle failed at around the 70k mark but Nathan's failed at the same time as the stock piston . . . perhaps causing the piston failure. Both axles broke INSIDE the gear so it did not destabilize the gearset completely but enough to chew the piston.
I would still buy another LR in a heartbeat but just wanted to give a heads up.
IMHO any gun that can go 40,000 rounds before having to be broken down is earning it's keep!!
