Automated sentry gun

This is for paintball but I don't see it as a stretch to make one for airsoft as well. So.. If anyone has a spare MiniITX motherboard, dual core & 4 gigs of ram lying around...

That's pretty cool ...It would also be cool to make a small target on it that when hit it would disable it for a short period.
I can see those being used in the SAAL game in the year 2020..The Air dog guys could just sit in an Air conditioned booth and chase players by remote.

Very cool! I was in a computer programming class in highschool, we had to make our little robot turns around corners without hitting the wall by detecting that the wall was an obstacle. NOT EASY!!! I can imagine how difficult the programming on that sentry gun was.

Now, say we had a Strafer (non explosive version) rigged up to one of these. Nobody knew when it was gonna be turned on in a game. The Refs would sit with a little remote. And blast random people. This, would be the best airsoft invention, ever.

I actually think it would be easier to make an airsoft version because, if you read the comments, they said their biggest problem was accuracy due to the shaking disrupting the webcam targeting. Since airsoft bb's don't cause a whole lot of recoil,the webcam used to target would be much more stable.

Yea the muzzle lift was giving the sentry a hard time so it lost its target every time. A airsoft version would just PWN.

And the programming...forget that did you see that they had a entire computer running the thing.

That would be crazy ...just strap the strafer to that thing. Make a huge hopper to feed it and you'd be set!

If you arent familiar with basic computer programming (not "hacking", just pure and basic code) its alot more complicated than it seems. It doesn't mater how much power you have running the program, writting it is still going to be just as hard. I believe the guy who made this said it was am academic project of his or something, in which case Im assuming he had to write the code from scratch, which would be very difficult! I made a calculator program from scratch once and a Rock/Paper/Scissors game from scratch on C++ and it took me a LONG time to complete.

Yes but I'm sure I could find the source code for this or one similar, since it's not a school project there's no need to write it from scratch. Besides if we did, I would do it in python or something, to hell with C++ lol

If I can remember something like this was made for another college project similar to this only with a mounted spud cannon that had 3 barrels and rotated to get 3 rds in semi auto. Just throwing it out there.
