After Action Report - Day game, Delimitation Conflict
I had a blast at the event this weekend. I am curious to hear how the night part of the event wound up. I wound up leaving at the dinner break becuase of family and church obligations today, but I'm hoping GA continued to whoop up on the opponent.
I was looking back at the 'track back' log on my GPS, which kept track of my activities yesterday, and thought I'd recap my day's events from yesterday as an AAR. I was fired up to finally actually use it for airsoft purposes -- all of the GA fields I know pretty well, and this was the first time I'd explored unfamiliar terrain in game (we didn't get to SC early enough to see the field ahead of time) that had been mapped out and marked off ahead of time. Props to the people making the maps and getting the coordinates ahead of time.
12 pm to 1:15 pm - Assault towards Lincoln
Middle Georgia Airsoft only had a small contingent at the game. We made ourselves available to Jester at the start of the game, and we started the game heading north towards Lincoln's Hold. We met early resistance with a SC squad -- we heard an active firefight to our East towards the main trail, which I believe was the Airdog crew. Eventually I wound up bleeding out, and returning with a new crew I found at the GA base, this time a little more to the West. We were engaged by the SC 'tank' pickup -- I wasn't sure really what this was doing -- it appeared as though they were trying to drop some folks off into the firefight, and I'm not sure if they were hit inside the vehicle, or were trying to accomplish something else, but they didn't wind up exiting.
We were up on a ridgeline looking down towards the Lincoln's hold area firing on the SC crew. I would say we gave as good as we got, but ultimately the crew I was with was not able to take Lincoln, and I eventually bled out to return to the base.
1:30 pm - Assault on Midfield
I had to make a pit stop to the car to get some different goggles -- I was trying out some Wiley X's with the foam pulled out in hopes of avoiding fog, but I essentially couldn't see anything the first hour of the game because of fog from the rain. We found some GA folks who let us know that the K-9 spawn belonged to GA, so we headed east through the woods off of the trail to reconvene at K9.
We had bypassed J Davis; we linked up with a crew at K9 and went back to surround the SC players at Davis. We took up position in a tire fort West of the main trail, at the edge of the clearing with the Tower in it, and got the drop on a SC squad. I spent the next hour or so making short excursions from K9 towards Davis , and then north towards the main SC base. I didn't really encounter the SC armor to my suprise -- I kept waiting on the Deuce to roll up with 20+ SC players to give us some grief at K9, but it never came. Props to whomever took K9 at the start of the game.
I went with my MGA wingman Ice to scout out the tower -- there were two SC players occupying, with another two beneath the tower. We were trying to avoid the Rambo mentality, but it was hard during the game to organize a group to go do things, even with me monitoring two different radio channels (our squad was on 15, and I was also monitoring 11 becuase I'd heard that was the command/tank channel). We got within AEG range of the Tower by sneaking through the woodline to the south, but I wasn't able to clear the tower. Part of the difficulty was getting shots on target with the 20+ mph wind that was going across the open field at the time. Ice had to bail me out after I was shot there.
We eventually went back to K9 to try to round up some support, and that's when the armor rolled up. Open field assault with both Fallout's tank as well as the Rage Rover was awesome. Following that success, we pushed on to the north woodline with the armor, and had good luck clearing the northern woodline. We pressed on throught the thick woods with the GPS with the intent of taking Ft. Grant from the north...we popped out of the clearing and took 2-3 SC players, but there were a LOT of folks back there and that was not a success.
3:30 pm - Fight at K9
We bled out to K9, and wound up holding that for awhile -- there were maybe 3-4 folks there other than our group at any one time, and there were some stragglers harassing us from the thick brush east of K9. We had a whole squad of SC get ~30 yrs from us before we saw them; thankfully we had some good cover behind those tires. I heard from various people that we only held the GA base, Swamp Ally, and K9 at that point. We wound up holding K9 because it seemed important and no one else would stay put. We did see some more action from the road going to Davis and from the open road coming from the SC base, but I don't know why SC didn't try harder to take K9 -- Jester even showed up there with us eventually.
4:15 -
Eventually some folks tapped us out of the K9 defense just in time to catch the Rage Rover going to the SC base. We followed up and ducked into the woodline and moved in behind. Although we'd been told not to fight through the tents at the briefing?? the SC players were actively seeking cover behind the tent town, so the fight went back into the tents. I wound up holding a corner south of there, later tried to assault the tent town and was shot and bled out. I heard that a SC player hurt his hand with fireworks, and went to try and take a look to see if I could help (2nd/3rd degree burns of the hand need to be seen at a burn unit), but I never did find anyone who knew, or anything useful on the admin channel, so I hope things turned out ok.
4:45 -
With the clock winding down, we wanted to scramble to control what we could, and we weren't able to confirm if we held Davis or not. We went through the woodline east of Davis and approached from the GA side to find that it was being held by 3-4 GA players. We did see some small firefights here (~5-6 SC stragglers) before things died down. We moved on towards Camp Wounded, with word that that was "where it's at" over the radio.
5:30 -
Several of us wound up joining the open field charge with the 75th?? group (ACU dudes) and got into the woodline to the West. We heard Wounded was ours shortly before the break, so Ice and I along with some others headed south to clear the woodline to Lincoln, and that's where my game ended.
The Good:
-300+ players (wow) / big turnout from Ga
-Fallout's tank and the always awesome Rage Rover
-Majority of people playing honorably even in big game setting
-Big field with a variety of terrain
The Bad:
-Getting started late
-Unintelligible garbage coming over the radio for the majority of the day -- at one point I was convinced SC was trying to hose us with annoying call beeps, VOX settings transmitting AEG fire, etc.
The ugly:
-8 hrs in the car round trip(ouch)
Special mention for Fallout's tank: One SC player commented to me that he would have nightmares about the sound of the Strafer. Said player was later found admiring your tank and taking pictures at the dinner break. The stuff coming over the loudspeaker was epic and had me laughing out loud on several occasions.
Shouts out to seeing some old friends and meeting some new folks on the GA side.
