    Post  philsaudio 26.12.11 19:18

    Hi Y'all:

I am considering airsoft but I am not new to combat games. I got into Paintball in 91, when I lived in Los Angeles, taking my 10 year old son out once a week on saturday and playing without him once a week on Sunday for 5 years. I let him take a friend once a month so I introduced many a kid to paintball. I figure I played a thousand paintball matches. I was in the USAF during the Vietnam War.

I started paintball back when the standard gun was the one shot and shake CO2 powered PGP pistol, graduated to Tipman pump gun then semi auto's. When we got the semi-autos that could shoot a couple thousand rounds in one day we couldn't afford to play twice in one weekend so we all started to play the “whomever gets the most kills per round ratio at the end of the day wins game” I have reffed when I trashed my knee (playing of course) and been killed untold times sporting welts in the face and neck on every Monday.

I have not played paintball for 15 years. My son is 31 and I am now a grandpa.

I have and shoot several 9mm and .38 cal pistols.

I found out about airsoft recently and took a shooting buddy to Airsoft Atlanta where he bought a 1911 gas pistol, loaded it with .25 BB's and shot me in the butt from 15 feet. Ouch but not to bad.

I watched the kids spray and pray with AEG's at the local Gold Eagle CGB spot at the local Discover Mills mall via youtube. I don't think that looks to fun.
A friend or two and my son want to practice defending our homes with semi-auto blowback gas pistol with limited, realistic amounts , of ammo and realistic rates of fire. .

We have plenty of space to play in our wooded back yards, a farm, a quarry, and my buddies local, indoor music venue.

My wife is not to excited about this being a new hobby, as she had to pay for my trashed knee and dealt with my injuries each week when I returned from the fields.

After selling off my dilapidated paintball gear I will be able to get a GBB semi-auto and the Brass Guard Stark mask. I am thinking KWA ATP, KWA USP compact or KJW P229, because they fit the holster I have for my Ruger P90 DC but I can't find anything small like my Springfield Armory Subcompact XD9.

    Peace

PS: here is the stuff I want to sell.https://metroatlantaairsoft.darkbb.com/t4382-out-of-paintball-into-airsoft

Hey Welcome to Airsoft and the forum. The KWA are all good pistols. I have the ATP which is smaller than my Springfield XD .45, but fits the same holster IMO it is a good substitute to use for training. I have taught my sons handgun safety using the ATP since they can't physically pull back the Springfield. Good luck have fun and hope to sling some plastic with ya soon.

welcome to the forums! you should check out the outdoor fields. that's not like the indoor stuff at all. you can play more at your own pace outdoors. check out some airdog or georgetown videos. i'm not sure of too many other outdoor fields.

SS Airsoft Indoor CQB Airsoft Arena
    Sugar Hill GA http://www.ssairsoft.com/

Having not played for 15 years I came to meet a friend and buy a speed loader and wound up in the ready area with my 2 week old ATP two 23 round mags and one 50 round mag. I was surrounded by 145 other players.

Full face-mask with goggle are required.

I saw projecting lasers, and claymores being used.

During the tour the ref told me the chrono limits were
    <400 fps full auto
    > 400, 409 semi only.
The ref giving the tour told me there was a chrono but I did not see any “chronoing” activity, at random, upon entering a match, or on the field nada.

I arrived later in the day so maybe I missed out on the chrono enforcement. I guess there were about 40 people per side for each match.

Matches were mostly 7 minutes; the last one was 12 minutes.
Time was announced two minutes and one minute prior to game end

Each game was different although they all included 3 – 5 respawns

Raise your teams 9 flags. Each flagpole had a flag for each team.
Hidden radioactive core must be screwed into hidden container.
    Each team has a terminator
Everyone on semi VS 8 hidden terrorists on full auto.
    Death match with 5 reincarnations.

There were a lot of kids Saturday, many decked out in BDU’s with machine guns as well as a lot of kids wearing rental masks with rental machine guns. I met some older guys who were also playing Airsoft for the first time. They came from paintball too. Overall everyone there was pretty friendly and having a great time.

It was pretty organized, there were three refs on the field at all times, the turn around was swift, with barely enough time to do a quick reload between matches

Everyone on the staff in the retail store and the Arena were courteous and knowledgeable. The retail shop is great, especially if you are into a JG or Echo 1 AEGs.

What a great experience this was, I will definitely go back.

The Chrono is at the desk where you get your rental gun.

I did not rent a gun. Anyhow with paintball they chrono you each time you enter the field to prevent "that guy" who turns up the gun in the ready area or switches guns, from lighting people up on the field. It was not voluntary it was mandatory. Then there is the ref on the field with a chrono for those who sound/look hot on a spot check. Over chrono gets you kicked out.

Anyhow that is how it was back in the day.

    Peace

Just ordered an SRC G36C after determining that the G36 is the only gun I can sight the metal sight on while wearing my Scott Mask/Goggle. Got a nice 9.6v 1600MA NiCad and charger and extra mag too. $200 shipped to Atlanta from Evike.

Just fixed up my old JT mask with the vortx fan. Lets see how that handles the fog of war.

    Peace
