What is your opinion on the Mechanicum's belief in the Omnissiah? Do you think it interferes with their belief in the Emperor? If so, why? Do you also believe that machines truly have machine sprits or is it just some archaic way of maintaining ancient machines that have become fickle over time?

Re: Everything 40K Thread
To die without purpose is not a service to the Emperor. It is a heresy to waste lives entrusted to you as an Imperial officer. There is nothing shameful or disloyal in righteous retreat. But in withdrawing from the enemy's presence, allow him no succor. That which cannot be saved must be destroyed. Leave no weapons, armor, transport, food or water in your passing. Scorch the earth at his feet, and leave him desert and desolation as his victory gifts.
Only a madman knows no fear. A warrior knows what fear is, he feels it in his stomach, he understands fear better than any other mortal can. What makes us strong is that we have conquered fear, overcome it not once but many times, over and over again, until the process has become instinctive. But no matter how many battles you fight and how many victories you win, your fear will never completely leave you. Learn to live with that fear. Learn to master your fear. But never forget that there are things in this universe that even you cannot face and live, abominations so terrible that their very appearance will sear the flesh from your face and shrivel your eyes. Such things cannot be fought, and to confront them nothing but a futile waste of life. In these situations, remember your vows to serve the Emperor, and remember also that you serve him best alive and not sacrificed upon the altar of vain glory.

It is the 41st millenium. For more than a hundred centuries, the Emperor has sat immobile on the Golden Throne of Earth. He is the master of mankind by the will of the gods, and master of a million worlds by the might of his inexhaustible armies. He is a rotting carcass writhing with invisible power from the Dark Age of Technology. He is the Carrion Lord of the Imperium for whom a thousand souls are sacrificed every day, so that he may never truly die.
Yet even in his deathless state, the Emperor continues his eternal vigilance. Mighty battlefleets cross the daemon-infested miasma of the warp, the only route between distant stars, their way lit by the Astronomican, the psychic manifestation of the Emperor's will. Vast armies give battle in his name on uncounted worlds. Greatest amongst his soldiers are the Adeptus Astartes, the Space Marines, bio-engineered super-warriors. Their comrades in arms are legion: the Imperial Guard and countless planetary defense forces, the ever-vigilant Inquisition and the tech-priests of the Adeptus Mechanicus to name only a few. But for all their multitudes, they are barely enough to hold off the ever present threat from aliens, heretics, and mutants - and worse.
To be a man in such times is to be one amongst untold billions. It is to live in the cruelest and most bloody regime imaginable. These are the tales of those times. Forget the power of technology and science, for so much has been forgotten, never to be re-learned. Forget the promise of progress and understanding, for in the grim dark future, there is only war. There is no peace amongst the stars, only an eternity of carnage and slaughter, and the laughter of thirsting gods.

Of course we can. We haven't even begun to brush the surface of everything that is 40K. I could quite literally write a 5,000 page book about warhammer 40k and still have stuff to talk about afterwards.

I need a different question, I don't have any knowledge on the Omnissiah, save that he is the Machine Lord, and that the Mechanicum believes that the Emperor is the Lord of Man.

Re: Everything 40K Thread
Here is a question that I actually want an answer to due to my lack of knowledge, not so much for discussion. Austin, how powerful are the Knights of Tarsis? Compare them to a SpaceMarine I suppose...I kind of see them thus far as a mix between a sentinel and a Dreadnought, the build, speed and agility of a Sentinel but the armoured power of a Dreadnought. I can't put my finger on their level of power though, seeing as though I only have Protectors, who I just ran into, to compare to...

This answer will have to wait till tomorrow when I have more time as it is a lengthy explanation, but rest assured I shall get on it as soon as possible.

Re: Everything 40K Thread
I finally have enough time to sit down and answer your question. The Knights of Taranis are an ancient order that serves in the defense of Mars and the Mechanicum. They no longer exist in the universe we know today. The last two Knights are chronicled in the book Mechanicum.
The technology involved in making their mounts no longer exists. The closest thing to the interface the Knights have with their mounts would be that experienced by a Princeps of a Titan, however this link with a Titan pales in comparison with the closeness that a Knights feels to his own mount. The machine spirits are no longer understood on the same level by anyone outside the Mechanicum, and perhaps not even by them. The Knights of Taranis were a highly advanced and skilled fighting force, and their mounts had power that surpasses that of even an Astartes dreadnought. They had personal void shields which no longer exist. The smallest void shields now in existence are those surrounding the Titan Legios. Their armour was also self-repairing to a certain extent, much like the ancient ships and Titans from the Dark Age of Trchnology. This also no longer exists.
The Knights of Taranis represented one of the most advanced technological fighting forces to ever come out of the Imperium. They were highly trained and very disciplined. Their mastery of their vehicles was surpassed only by that of the ancient Titan masters, however the bond shared between master and mount is like nothing that has been seen since. Their mounts essentially had living personalities and has many characterisitics of a very advanced artificial intelligence which is still forbidden by the Imperium.
Hope that answers your question sufficiently. If you have any other specific questions about the Knights of Taranis, ask and I will endeavour to do my best to answer it.

Who is your favorite Space Marine and why?

Re: Everything 40K Thread
My favorite Space Marine ever has to be Abaddon the Despoiler. I don't hold any of his actions very highly, but the simple fact of the matter is that he is the "greatest" SpaceMarine of all time. He is the physical perfection of the entire Astartes experiment. His physical prowess and martial ability are second to none, his skills in combat are undeniable and his ability to survive borders on invulberability. He has fought and slain the greatest of enemies with the ease that one might thrash a field of wheat. He has wrecked Eldar battlegroups and crushed SpaceMarines for over 10,000 years. He survived the Assault on Terra, and continues to survive grevious and deadly assaults on Imperial Worlds across the galaxy. He has suffered the full might of the Imperial Army, the Adeptus Astartes, and even the forces of the GreyKnights, and has spilled the blood of all. When his attacks lose momentum and his men are slaugthered, he only retreats back into the Eye of Terror because he needs more men to complete his objectives, not because he himself is in danger of losing his life. He is a ruthless killing machine, unstoppable and unbelievably potent on the battlefield. His abilities are second only to the Primarchs and to the Emperor.

Re: Everything 40K Thread
If you were about to be overrun by a light tyranid force, which would you rather have to arrive as reinforcements? A Venerable Dreadnought or a squad of Terminators, with assault cannons?

Re: Everything 40K Thread
A squad of terminators I should think. The numbers of the Terminator squad will provide a distinct advantage because they can cover multiple routes of advance, whereas the Dreadnought can only be in one place at a time. What would you choose?

Re: Everything 40K Thread
Terminator squad as well for the same reason. Also, if they are armed with assault cannons, than Five of them would have more firepower than the Venerable DreadNought itself, even though its venerable and therefor able to field very advanced weaponry, five assault cannons is a fierce array of weaponry, as well as the powerfists that accompany each Terminator.

Agreed. Now, what can I ask....?
Say you were an Ultramarine and you were banished from your chapter like Uriel Ventris. Would you give up or would you continue to fight?

Well, if I was banished I would be issued a quest to reclaim my honor right? I guess I would pursue that until I either died or completed my objective and was brought back into the chapter.

Haha, I think he is simply the expendable guy. Like the Red shirted guys from Star Trek.
I hope someone else is a nerd like me and actually understands this Star Trek joke.
